Resolve and Hard work: Key Factors for Modernity

Chief Justice Hon. Harifin A. Tumpa urges all officials and officers in the Supreme Court and its subordinate courts to possess strong resolve and be willing to work hard to implement modernization process within all Indonesian courts.

Speaking before participants of Sharing Workshop Program: Building Spirit of Change – On the basis of Team and Organization Harmony, this morning (9/12) in Bandung, West Java, Harifin believes Indonesian courts will change to far more modern institutions. 

“Strong resolve and hard work are key factors for the success of the modernization process that the Supreme Court has been undertaking,” he said.

The workshop, which is held in collaboration with USAid and The Asia Foundation, is attended by officials from 1st and 2nd echelons in the Court and Chief Judges of Appellate Courts from Java, South Sulawesi, North Sumatra, East and West Kalimantan.

This program, initiated and directly monitored by Deputy Chief Justice for Development, Widayatno Sastrohardjono, is designed and guided by Prof. Rhenald Kasali, PhD and his team from Change Management Consulting – House of Change, Jakarta. Deputy Chief Justice for Administrative Court, Prof. Paulus E. Lotulung, SH was also seen attending the program.

As a learning program using sharing-camp model, the Workshop employs various dynamic, intensive and interactive methods with the focus on providing enlightenment, motivation and spirit of struggle for the agents of change to uphold judicial reform within the Supreme Court and its subordinate courts.

The necessity of clear objective and direction of modernization.

Harifin further said the modernization needed to be driven to clear objectives and direction that would be guidance for all elements in the Supreme Court.

“The Supreme Court Blueprint for next 25 years that has been recently formulated has set up a clear objective and direction for modernization in the Court,” Harifin added.

“The Blueprint is planned to be implemented in every 5 years respectively with each strategic plans. Hence, it is clear what the Supreme Court will achieve in every stage of modernization.”

In addition, Chief Justice warned all elements of the courts to be willing and capable of performing the modernization programs. He stressed the urgency of change since every human being basically has awareness to change.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Justice Widayatno previously reported that the workshop was for the officials in the Supreme Court to enhance understanding of the Blueprint. Moreover, this enthusiastic Deputy Chief Justice hoped the continuity of such workshop that will end on Friday (11/12).

Director General of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana, who is also taking part in the work shop hopes all elements in the Religious Courts to try every endeavor to modernize and innovate for public service improvement.
