Information Desk at the Supreme Court receives approximately 20 to 30 guests requesting information on the proceedings of their cases daily.
The Information Desk has been operated since the end of June 2009 after the issuance of Supreme Court Decree No. 144/2007 on the openness of information in courts. Registry Division holds the responsibility to manage this desk.
The existence of Information Desk is deemed as an important part of judicial reform that has been ongoing since the Supreme Court created its Blueprint in 2003. As stated in the blueprint, reformation of bureaucracy requires the openness of information. Public has to be given a wide access to information that they need.
.Registrar of the Supreme Court is responsible for providing information on cases being examined by the Court, while Secretary is responsible for other information.
The Supreme Court Decree No. 144/2007 also imposes administrative sanctions to officers who intentionally provide wrong information or hinder the implementation of the decree.
Progressive Breakthrough
In terms of information openness, the Supreme Court is one step ahead compared to other state institutions. The Supreme Court Decree No. 144/2007 was born before the issuance of Law No. 14/2008 on the Openness of Public Information.
Chief Justice, Harifin A. Tumpa, said the Information Desk in the Supreme Court was not for temporary but for good.
