Annual report of the Supreme Court delivered by Chief Justice Hon. Harifin A. Tumpa on Thursday (25/2) reveals that in 2009 Indonesian first instance courts received a total of 3.546.854 cases, out of which 3.462.158 cases have been decided. The total decided cases were examined by four jurisdictions within the Court i.e. General, Religious, Administrative and Military Courts.
Quick and light criminal cases and traffic cases ranked the top position with the total 3.015.511 cases. Religious Courts cases came at the second with 274.545 cases followed by other civil and criminal cases in General Courts numbering 163.541 cases. Meanwhile, Administrative Court resolved 5.861 cases and Military Court decided 2.700 cases.
.The annual report also discloses that the Supreme Court has imposed sanctions on 180 judicial officers, 78 of whom are judges. 30 judges received heavy sanctions, 5 judges with medium sanctions and the rest with light sanctions.
Other officers received various penalties are 18 registrars, 1 vice registrar, 9 vice secretaries, 6 junior registrars, 10 substitute registrars, 5 structural officials, 13 bailiffs, 37 civil servants and 3 civil servant candidates.
The number of sanctioned-judicial officers has shown a rise for the past five years. The Court surely does not expect the increase but this is aimed to reduce the number of violation committed by judicial officers.
The Supreme Court sees the increased number as a result of enhanced activities of supervision carried out by Appellate Courts that have been given the authority to manage supervisory activities and to address public complaints.
In its reports, the Court also mentions that an amount of Rp. 759.406.513.000,- state-loss have been returned to the state treasury from three big cases of corruption, drug misuse and environmental cases. (avic)
