Directorate General of Religious Courts in the Supreme Court (Badilag) pays serious attention on the spread of counterfeit divorce certificates in a number of regions in West Java such as Ciamis, Tasikmalaya, Garut and Banjar. Although the police of those regencies have successfully dismantled the mafia forging the certificates, Director General of Badilag Wahyu Widiana still urges Religious Courts to stay alert.
“Religious Court should be pro-active (in responding) to counterfeit divorce certificates soon when the indication appears. Try to coordinate with High Religious Court and Ditgen Badilag, and if necessary a formal report to the police should be made,” said Wahyu on Monday (31/5).
According to Wahyu, the outspread of such certificates causes a great loss to the judiciary. “You can imagine, they falsified divorce certificates, signatures of court officers, and court verdicts. This case must be thoroughly investigated,” he asserted.
.In 19 May 2010 Ciamis District Court sentenced three members of the counterfeit syndicate to 4 months in jail. They found guilty to have violated article 263 of Penal Code.
“Thanks to the report of citizens who were directly affected by this syndicate, this case could be exposed,” said Anang Permana, judge at Ciamis Religious Court on Thursday (27/5).
