Directorate General of Religious Courts Body (Badilag) in the Supreme Court intends to have a serious partnership with LIPIA (Institute for Islamic and Arabic Sciences), a Jakarta-based institution which is under supervision of King Ibn Saud Islamic University, Riyadh KSA. DG of Badilag Wahyu Widiana delivered the intention when meeting with Director of LIPIA, Dr. Abdullah bin Hudladi al-Sulami, on Tuesday (15/6/2010) in LIPA Campus, Jakarta.
Wahyu Widiana said Arabic language is highly important for Religious Courts judges. “Moreover, one requirement for being a judge candidate is being capable of reading Arabic books,” he said.
.“Arabic is very important because laws applied in Religious Courts are Islamic law and most of its sources are written in Arabic. It’s quite impossible for a judge to master Islamic law if not possessing good Arabic skills,” he added.
Wahyu also said Badilag has been developing two strategies to improve Arabic skill of Religious Courts officers, namely building an Arabic website and holding monthly Arabic discussion.
“We would like to invite Mr. Director to give a speech in the discussion someday,” Wahyu told Dr. Abdullah.
A More Serious Cooperation
Furthermore, DG of Badilag hopes a more serious cooperation between Badilag and LIPIA can be materialized by signing an MoU focusing on developing Arabic and Islamic law.
“We really hope a short course on Islamic law and sharia economy can be extended,” he said.
Last year Supreme Court (Badilag) in collaboration with King Ibn Saud University Riyadh sent 37 religious courts judges to Riyadh to follow training on sharia economy.
As the Director of LIPIA, Dr. Abdullah welcomed DG Badilag’s wishes. “Our embassy given the green light (for that training),” he said.
“The government of Saudi Arabia gives great attention to Indonesia as the world’s larges Muslim country,” he added.
