DG of Badilag’s Public Lecture: Science, Skill, and Spirituality

In front of 97 judge candidates who were participating in education and training program, DG Badilag Wahyu Widiana delivered a public lecture on the subject of reformation on Religious Court. DG warned the importance of science, skill, and spirituality for judges. Public lecture that lasted about four hours was getting enthusiastic response from the participants.
According to Wahyu Widiana, science, skill, and spirituality, which are formulated in 3S is a requirement to engender judges as agents of change and realize the vision and mission of the Religious Court. “Science includes the understanding and control of legislation, customs, and related information. Skills include expertise in analyzing, writing, making decision and mastering in IT as well. Spirituality is moral and spirit.” stated DG.
Judges are expected to become agents of change to ensure that Religious Courts are respectable and dignified. Judge should properly master in technical aspects of management as well as judicial. According to Wahyu Widiana, judge is the man behind the gun who has authority to control and maintain a respectable judiciary.
During the lecture, DG Badilag also informed some efforts of Badilag in conducting an internal bureaucratic reformation that have been successfully carried out. The examples are case management procedure to reduce arrears cases in the Supreme Court; improving case administration system (SIADPA) to run judicial process in simple, immidiate, and low cost within Religious Court in particular; internal controls system through supervision agency; personnel management system such as recruitment, promotion, ang rotation; budget management, transparency and IT utilization; as well as education and training program which is annually conducted.
In the end of his public lecture, DG Badilag also emphasized the urgency of utilizing Information Technology for all Religious Courts and High Religious Court all around the country. "Although IT is not the main task but it is important to support fundamental duty," said Wahyu Widiana.
