Chief Justice, the Hon. Harifin A. Tumpa, said the Supreme Court has managed to decide 13,891 cases during 2010, which represents the largest number in the last ten years. The Court achieved similar achievement in 2008, only with slightly fewer number, 13.885 cases that year.
According to the Chief Justice, the Court also received 13,480 cases in 2010, which is the largest number in the last six years.
“Although the number of incoming cases always shows an increasing trend, the Supreme Court managed to continually resolve the remaining cases. As a result, the undecided (pending) cases at the end of this year amount to 8,424 cases, whereas in early 2005 the pending cases totaled 15,975 cases,” Chief Justice said.
Despite this achievement, Chief Justice warned all his subordinates not to be satisfied with what has been done in 2010. “Our performance in 2011 should be improved,” he said while adding that the quality of judgments play a significant role in building the judiciary image. (c)
