The 2011 IACA Conference:

A Great Honor for the Religious Courts


In cooperation with Association for Court Administration (IACA), the Supreme Court will be the host for IACA conference. The conference promoting the theme “Access to Justice” will be held in March 13 to 16, 2011 in Bogor. About 18 countries will participate at the conference.

“In this conference, Badilag get a big honor to present the real experiences based on an accurate data about access to justice provided in the religious courts” Dirjen said.

Director General of Badilag will be scheduled to present his paper at the third day of the conference. The title of his paper is “Justice for the Poor: The Badilag Experience”. He will discuss on prodeo (waiving fees), circuit court and legal aid post provided in the religious courts.

According to DG of Badilag, the conference will give a strategic value for the Supreme Court in general and for the religious court in particular. “By this conference we could promote our achievements”, he said.

It will be the second time that DG presents his paper on the IACA conference. “In the previous conference held in Turkey last year, we got so many appreciations from international people. It is absolutely a credit for us. We will become more motivated to serve the justice seekers, especially to the poor and the marginalized people”, Wahyu Widiana explained.

The Fifth Conference

According to Jeffrey A Apperson, the president of IACA, since IACA was founded in 2004, it successfully held four conferences. The current conference taking place in Bogor will be the fifth.

The big theme for the conference is “access to justice”. It consists of some sub themes or topics including: 1. facilitating access to justice for disadvantaged groups, 2. circuit courts and access to justice for the poor or those living in rural or remote areas, 3. access to justice for children, 4. courts cooperating with NGOs, 5. legal aid posts / duty solicitors in courts, 6. court administration training, 7. providing information to court clients / communication with court stakeholders, 8. delivering access to justice: monitoring and evaluation, 9. information technology and access to justice.
