The Legal Aid Post Must be Well Administered

To support national program on access for the poor, Badilag, launched a program called “Legal Aid Post” in March 2011. There are at least 46 religious courts providing legal aid post services for poor. It is based on the Circular Letter of the Supreme Court No. 10/2010 on Guidelines for Provision of Legal Aid.
The Director General of the Religious Courts, Wahyu Widiana, has observed some religious courts such as Religious Court of South Jakarta, Depok, Cianjur, Ciamis, Yogyakarta, Sleman, Surabaya, Tanjungkarang, Makassar, Manado and Jayapura.
Generally, Wahyu Widiana found that the legal aid post provided in those religious courts has run well. Because this service is relatively new to the Religious Courts, it just needs more improvements.

“I am very happy that the legal aid post runs well in some religious courts”, Wahyu Widiana said when he visited the Religious Court of Surabaya, Thursday (21/4/2011).

Wahyu Widiana added that the publication on legal aid post service must be widely delivered to people so that they will know it. “If so many people enjoy the service, the program will run much better”, Wahyu Widiana said.
The legal aid post is intended to help the poor (particularly for women, children and disable people) in providing the legal advice and coulse due to their incapability to pay advocating services.
The legal aid post provides information, legal advice and conlsel as well as formulating a lawsuit. And advocates, law scholars who master Islamic Law and syari’ah scholars can give services of the legal aid post. It will enables the justice seekers to obtain a wide legal aid services. On the other hand, the Legal Aid Post in Mahkamah Syar’iah in Aceh will enables the poor to obtain a special assistance of the lawyers in criminal matters in the courts.

In the Religious Court of Surabaya, when the legal aid post has operated since March 28, there are at least 341 people get the legal aid service. It means that there are 23 people obtaining the service per a day.
Wahyu Widiana appreciated the legal aid post in the Religious Court of Surabaya because it has been well administered. He also reminded that the legal aid post should also be reported monthly to SMS Gateway. (raj).
