AusAID Committed to Support Religious Courts

Nicola Colbran, Program Director for Indonesia Australia Partnership for Justice AusAID, paid a visit to the Badilag office on Friday (29/4/11) and was welcomed by the DG of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana, at his working room on 6th floor of the Secretariat Building of the Supreme Court, Central Jakarta.
Nicola intended to discuss with the DG on the possibilities of AusAID to support Badilag’s programs this year and in the future. “I’d like to discuss detailed things possible to carry out together to support the Religious Courts,” she said. .
DG Badilag, Wahyu Widiana, explained in a more in-depth about Badilag’s and religious courts’ priority programs this year and for the coming years. Prodeo facility, circuit court, and legal aid post are some programs he mentioned.
Apart from that, Wahyu Widiana told his guest, who has a good fluency in Bahasa, some programs that need assistance from other institutions because of the limitation that the religious courts have in terms of state budget and facilities.
Badilag, Wahyu further said, put emphasis on providing legal aid for the poor and disability, enhancing public service, improving the use of IT and case information system. Badilag needs to cooperate with other institutions to realize those programs. Those institutions are both governmental and non governmental.
Nicola Colbran enthusiastically listened to the DG’s explanation and said that AusAID was committed to support the religious courts in implementing those programs for the sake of justice and poor people. ©
