The Discussion on the MoU

Khartoum | badilag.net

Indonesia and Sudan have long history in terms of political relationship starting from the early period of the independence. Indonesia was the first to internationally speak out and acknowledge Sudan as an independent country through Asia-Africa Conference held in Bandung 1955. However, this old friendship does not suddenly lead to the advanced cooperation, particularly in judiciary aspect, until the rise of reformation era when Islamic economics becomes a prominent feature in Indonesian law system context.

.

Sudan is among few countries where Islamic economics system has in advance applied. For this reason, Indonesian Supreme Court needs to deeply learn and gain as much information as possible related to the development of Islamic economics system. The Supreme Court is concerned to establish such a tight cooperation with Sudan as a result of high public interest toward Islamic economic activity in Indonesia. Driven from this fact, the amount of Islamic economic practices related disputes might increase in the future. Hence, it is reasonable for the Supreme Court as the highest institution in resolving all legal disputes to make Sudan as the reference for Islamic economics system by delegating a team to explore judiciary system in Sudan, particularly on the notion of Islamic economics legal system.

The delegation of Indonesian Supreme Court consisting of Drs. H. Rum Nessa, MA., Drs. Wahyu Widiana, MA., and Nasich Salam Suharto, Lc, LLM., arrived in Khartoum on Sunday afternoon, May 29, 2011 and was scheduled to be in Sudan until June 2, 2011. The main agenda of this visit is to generate such a common view on the possible cooperation by drafting a Memorandum of Understanding in the realm of human resource development.

The delegation was received by the Supreme Court Chief Justice of the Republic of Sudan, Maulana Galal ed Deen Mohammed Othman in his office at Monday, May 30, promptly at 11.00 am by the local time. The Chief Justice of the Republic of Sudan highly appreciated the visit of Indonesian Supreme Court delegation that is geographically very far away from Sudan. This was interpreted as an indicator what a close ties the cooperation between Indonesia and Sudan, especially in the judicial aspect. “We would like to welcome the delegation of Indonesian Supreme Court that was pleased to come to Sudan even had to travel thousands of miles. Not only the Supreme Court to welcome the arrival of this delegation, but also the people of Sudan to appreciate this positive initiative. We are ready to cooperate with Indonesian Supreme court in judiciary realm,” said the Chief Justice.

Answering the Chief Justice speech, the delegation head explained that this visit was mandated by the Chief Justice of Indonesia and be concerned to enhance the relationship in whole aspects. Supposedly, this visit could finally engender sort of agreement which leads to the emergence of joint program between these two institutions. “We expect there will be a real program to improve our human resources through education and training programs in the future,” said Rum Nessa, the head of the delegation.

However, the first day meeting was supposedly kind of welcome ceremony which will be continued by serious discussions in the next couple of days regarding the development of human resources in terms of Islamic economics system between the two countries.
