Cate Sumner is Impressed by Posbakum Provided in RC of Palembang

After visiting the General Court (GC) of Palembang, Cate Sumner, Director of Law & Development Partners with her colleagues visited the Religious Court (RC) of Palembang, Thursday (18/08). Her main purpose was to see Legal Aid Post (Posbakum) available there.

Accompanied by the Chief of GC of Palembang, Ridwan Masyur, Registrar, Bambang Hermanto Wahid and some of staffs, Cate Sumner was warmly welcomed by the Chief of RC of Palembang, Burdan Burniat.

“I am very impressed by Posbakum provided here,” she said.

Cate showed her sweet smile while saw a big banner announcing, “Legal Aid Post is available in this court”.

It was the third time she visited a Religious Court to see the implementation of Posbakum, after RC of Depok and RC of Cianjur in several months ago.

An officer of Posbakum explained that legal aid is provided free of charge. An official letter of poor issued by local government is required when a litigant want to get the service. If not, he or she must declare that he/she can not afford a lawyer. It is really very simple.

Officers of Posbakum consist of academician of IAIN Raden Fatah (State Institute for Islamic Studies) and layers from Indonesian Advocate Association and Legal Aid Institute.

In RC of Palembang, Posbakum has been operated since March and it runs very well. Burdan Burniat realized that there are so many significant obstacles found because it is relatively something new in the Religious Court.

“One problem is that the budget available is not sufficient to cover all services,” he said. He hoped that the budget can increase for the next year.

Cate Sumner also saw the implementation of Information Desk as well as Client Service in RC of Palembang. The case cost is clearly announced so that litigants are able to prepare their money before they file a case.

Any kind of information related to courts including court session, finalization of divorce certificate, court procedures, and etc is provided in the Information Desk, free of charge. It is also found in its website.

RC of Palembang has designed its court room to avoid any illegal interaction and communication between parties and court’s apparatus. Yes, it is after getting very important suggestion from the Director General of the Religious Courts, Wahyu Widiana.

Litigants are pleased to take their remaining cash advance after their cases are finalized. Of course, if their money is excessive.

Wahyu Widiana appreciated Cate and her colleagues for their visit. He hoped apparatus of RC of Palembang continue to improve their service.
