Few days ago, the Director General (DG) of the Religious Courts (Badilag), Wahyu Widiana received such a message criticizing Badilag’s policy on promotion which seemed to emphasize more on IT skill proficiency rather than integrity and capability. Due to this critique, he clarified that IT proficiency is only one of supporting elements by which someone’s career might be considered. The main factor for someone’s promotion is the combination between integrity, capability and seniority.
However, DG admitted that IT nowadays becomes a necessity because our era is moving faster and dynamic. Despite the fact that IT is only one of supporting elements to promote someone’s career, it definitely contributes enormous benefits. We can run our main task easily, fast, cheap and of course more accurate due to the use of IT. In addition, IT can absolutely widen our horizon because the internet provides very broad information in almost all aspects of life.
.Quoting Dory Reiling, a judge from Amsterdam district court, in his book “Technology for Justice”, Wahyu Widiana pleased to promote the use of IT for all judges and staff within the Religious Courts across the country. The book states, “IT is the most striking factor in changing the world in our era.”
Then, he asserts that the Supreme Court nowadays starts to prioritize the use of IT for all judges and staff in completing as well as finalizing their main tasks including the conduct of court coaching toward all courts under the Supreme Court.
“As a matter of fact, when the Supreme Court arranged the Blue Print for Judiciary Reform 2010-2035, designed Quickwins program, formulated the flagship program, and conducted the National Work Meeting 2011, we have all seen how IT played a vital role to succeed all those agendas. Therefore, we cannot deny the benefits of IT,” stated Wahyu Widiana convincing that IT cannot be neglected as just.
However, Wahyu Widiana also reminds us that IT is only a tool which can be positive or negative, so it depends on user’s integrity. IT is not everything, but instrumental.
Regarding policy on promotion, he asserts that integrity is the first priority while skill on IT is a kind of contributing factor by which person’s job is assessed. Therefore, addressing Reiling statement that “IT is the most striking factor in changing the world in our era,” he said that IT is one of the most striking factors in changing the world in our era.
