Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Vice Chairman, Amien Sunaryadi, admitted that he was so impressed with the various progresses achieved by Religious Courts, particularly in terms of case management, IT usage and the implementation of justice for the poor.
"We are very interested in telling a story about the success of SIADPA development," said Amien, who is now acting at the World Bank as a Senior Operations Officer, when he met with the Director General of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana, Monday (17/10/2011). The meeting held in the Director General work room in which Amien was accompanied by Sutjiati Egi, a consultant on the project of Change for Justice. Egi is also a technical assistant to the Supreme Court.
Amien expressed the success of Badilag in developing SIADPA can inspire other institutions to make such a progress. Hence, he stated that replication is important.
“Through replication, the success likely can be transmitted from one place to another,” Amien added.
.Responding to that spirit, DG then invited his colleague to make such documentation by which other institutions might be interested in adopting similar program.
Besides discussing the success of SIADPA implementation, Amien turns to the use of IT in the Religious Court, in general. He really wants to know the key success from Pak Wahyu in developing Information Technology in the Religious Courts.
DG convinces his colleague that the key success for almost of all programs he launched is what so called commitment. In addition, DG affirmed a strong linkage between commitment and career.
In line with DG, Amien considers that the change of mindset is the key to the success of IT utilization.
"Technology is easy, the challenge is how to change people,” said Anti-Corruption activist of TEMPO magazine's choice, 2007.
Improving the Image of Indonesia in the International Community
In addition to the discussion above, Amien alluded to the views of international community towards Indonesia, especially in terms of law enforcement. According to the World Government Index, as Amien illustrated, justice sector is among Indonesian weaknesses. He means that justice sector is not only the court, but it is about the access to justice at large.
Regarding the issue of access to justice, Amien considers that it is important to provide to the international community a comprehensive information about legal aids in which Religious Court has developed. Prodeo (waiving court fees), circuit court, and legal aid post (posbakum) are salient programs of access to justice – related services by which the international community should appreciate.
Furthermore, according to Amien, it is important to spread information around the world about the growing number of poor people being helped in getting access to justice. If we could tell to the world, the index might significantly increase.
