Wahyu Widiana was a special guest at CILS Conference in Melbourne

Having delivered his keynote address in Sydney, the Director General of the Religious Courts, Wahyu Widiana attended CILS/NCEIS conference at Melbourne Law School, University of Melbourne, Australia, Tuesday (29/11/2011). He was invited by Prof Tim Lindsey, the chairman of the conference.
Tim Lindsey who is also the Director of Asian Law Center and of Center for Islamic Law and Society welcomed Wahyu Widiana proudly. He said, “Today, in the second day of this conference, we have a special guest who has just come from Sydney. He is Wahyu Widiana, the Director General of the Religious Courts”.
A number of participants looked very amazed. A man said that he had been familiar with the name of Wahyu Widiana, but it was the first time he met him. Another participants also said the same thing in the closing ceremony.
.This annual conference designed for doctoral program was attended by many students from various universities in Australia such as ANU, UNSW, Usyd, Monash, La Trobe, RMIT, New England, Curtin, Western Sydney, Victoria, Murdoch, Wollongong and Melbourne University.
Some professors also attended this conference including Virginia Hooker, Merle Ricklefs, Mike Feener, M B Hooker, Greg Fealy, Dr. Nadirsyah Hosen, a senior lecturer of Wollongong University, and KH. Ibrahim Hosen.
Some salient topics discussed in this conference were on the recent relationship between Muslim and the West, Islam in Malaysia and Indonesia, culture, women and family law.
In a convivial event, Wahyu Widiana with Dr. Hasbi Hasan (chairman secretary of the Supreme Court) talked to some participants. He told them on the development of the Religious Courts before the one-roof system had been adopted by the Supreme Court. He also shared on the recent progress after one-roof system. Many participants were enthusiastic. They asked him some interesting question on the Religious Courts.
During his attendance in the conference, Wahyu Widiana had been acquainted with Mike Feener, the Associate Professor from National University of Singapore. Feener is a close friendof Tim Lindsey. Both Tim Lindsey and Feener are often involved in numerous academic activities and publication. Feener is also a friend of Cammack, Law Professor of Southwestern Law School, Los Angeles, USA.
Wahyu Widiana said that the Religious Courts got extraordinary appreciation. According to him, it was a result of hard works by all apparatus of the Religious Courts.

“I am happy to share everything on what the Religious Court have achieved,” he said while answering a question of a student.
He also said that IT had shown its efficacy in supporting Religious Courts to achieve the progress.
“We must also improve the integrity and capability of our apparatus,” he said.
In the other occasion, Cate Sumner explained that a strong leadership played an important in developing the Religious Courts.
