Malang RC Cares About the People with Disabilities

There are facilities for the people with disabilities. And an employee is always ready to help

Jakarta: Badilag.net

Once, a woman in a wheelchair named Mrs. Cucu, in a meeting at Badilag office, expressed her anxiety. "I've come to a religious court, but I found it difficult and uncomfortable."

Mrs. Cucu expressed her experience, that the religious court she visited does not have a pathway for the wheelchair she uses. What really available is just storeyed staircase which is more suitable for the pedestrians. In addition, the position of public service counters in the religious court was also fairly high so that she had to look up constantly and stuck her hand up high to be served. "So, the religious court does not have facilities for the people with disabilities," she said.

If Mrs. Cucu visits Malang RC, of course she will get a very different impression. The religious court has had special facilities for the people with disabilities.

.

As it was seen by Badilag Assessment Team of Public Service and Information Desk, on the beginning of November 2011, the facilities were a wheelchair and special pathway.

In Malang RC, the community—especially the litigants are served through the left side door. The front door is only for the judges and employees.

In the left side door there are two pathways to access the court services. The first in the form of stairs for pedestrians. While the second path in form of ramps pathway, with a slope of 30 degrees, and is prepared for the people with disabilities or sick ones.

Various public service counters, ranging from case filing counters, cashier and the counters for returning the rest of the court fees down payment, line up near the left side door. The position of counters are not too high, making it easier for the people with disabilities to access it.

"We are devoting these facilities for providing the excellent services to the community, especially for the people with disabilities," The Chief of Malang RC, DR. H. Imron Rosyadi, MH said.

In the near future, Mrs. Cucu and other people with disabilities in the world will celebrate the special day. Since 1992, the UN has set December 3rd as International Day of the People with Disabilities.

Thus, although it has not been followed by all work units of religious courts, through Malang RC the Indonesian religious courts, at least, have begun to show their concern for the people with disabilities, and are responsive to the global program launched by the UN.
