The Increasing Divorce Rate in East Java must be Reduced

"The high divorce rate in East Java to be reduced!", Deputy Governor of East Java, H. Saifullah Yusuf said on his visit to Surabaya High Religious Court in order to establish the communication to solve problems that occur in East Java, particularly the high divorce rate. (12/05)
According to Gus Ipul, the nickname of H. Saifullah Yusuf, the divorce rate in Indonesia has an increasing trend with more than 10% per year.
Meanwhile, according to data from East Java Ministry of Religious Affairs and Surabaya High Religious Court, the marriage data in 2010 reached 380,000 marriages, while the divorce rate reached 65,000 cases. So it can be calculated divorce rate in East Java in 2010 reached 17%, which means higher than the average divorce rates in Indonesia.

Gus Ipul hopes the public are not easy to file the divorce. Moreover in the teachings of any religion, divorce is not a justified act. "Divorce is allowed, but divorce is far from heaven," Gus Ipul said.
Divorce, he went on, could have negative consequences for children. This is because the effects of marital disharmony become a psychological burden for the children.
"The impact of divorce obviously will affect the children in the family. This issue should have a treatment," H. Saifullah Yusuf said.
Meanwhile, the data from the Surabaya HRC recorded that during the January-October 2011, the divorce rate reached 61.340 cases in East Java.
Of that amount, 40,091 cases are of divorces filed by the wives and the rest, 21.249 cases are of divorces filed by the husbands.
"The three highest factors affecting the high divorce case are disharmony, no responsibility of the husband, and economic factors," The Deputy Chief of Surabaya HRC, Drs. H. Syamsul Falah., SH., M. Hum. Said.
In the future, the Provincial Government of East Java will invite the government agencies and related institutions to sit together and discuss the issue.
"The significant findings of the divorce rates will be discussed and followed up. Surely the subject will be the important study concerning the welfare of households," the Deputy Governor of East Java told medias covering his visit.
