Hatta Ali, the New Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

Having sworn in by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Hatta Ali officially became the new chief justice of the Supreme Court, Thursday (1/3/2012). He replaced the former chief justice Harifin A Tumpa who retired on Thursday, March 1, 2012.
The ceremony of the inauguration took place at the State Palace, Bogor. It was attended by all justices, a number of Cabinet members and lawmakers.
In February 8, Hatta Ali won the election of the Supreme Court leadership by getting 28 votes. He defeated his strongest rival Ahmad Kamil, the Deputy Chief Justice for Non Judicial Affairs who got 15 votes.

Hatta Ali started his career as public servant from March 1, 1978. He worked at the ministry of justice.
In 1982 Hatta Ali was appointed as candidate of judge at the General Court of North Jakarta and he became a judge in April 5, 1984 in the General Court of Sabang.
He had some experiences as chief in some General Courts including in Bitung (1996), in Manado, Tanggerang.
In May 21, 2003, he was appointed as a judge at High General Court of Denpasar and in 2004 in Jakarta.
In 2005 he was assigned as the Director General of the General Court and in July 23, he was installed as justice in the Supreme Court.
