Hisab Rukyat Becomes Rare

Hisab Rukyat (Islamic astronomy) almost becomes a rare skill among judges in the Religious Courts. According to the Director for Religious Case Administration, Hidayatullah MS, it is due to lack of interest of judges to master this skill.
This tend emerged since the Supreme Court adopted one roof system in 2004. The Religious Courts have a limited jurisdiction only in determining a new moon for Ramadhan.
Hidayatullah MS was worried that this situation would weaken the prestigious of the Religious Courts. He hoped that all judges had this skill in enhancing their work performance.
. To maintain knowledge on Islamic astronomy, Badilag would continuously hold a number of workshops. This firs workshop was held in Makassar from 3-5 of April 2012. It was attended by around 25 participants consisting 23 judges of first instance court, 2 appeal judges and registrar.Hidayatullah MS also said that his team would hold the same workshop in other region in 2012. All participants were hoped to spread what they got from the workshop to other judges.
The Director General of the Religious Courts, Wahyu Widiana as an expert in this matter delivered his presentation. He said that although the Religious Court had no longer some jurisdictions on Islamic astronomy, this knowledge was still very urgent.
It has been well-known among apparatus and judges of the Religious Courts that Wahyu Widiana had a lot of experiences on this matter. He had mastered this knowledge since he worked in the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
