The Chief Justice: The President Eagerly Wants Judge Salary Increase

Speaking in the National Annual Meeting of Indonesian Judge Association (IKAHI), in Manado, October 28, The Chief Justice Hatta Ali asserted that The President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono earnestly wants to increase the salary of judges.
“The President has twice asked the Cabinet Secretary Sudi Silalahi the Regulation Draft on the Status and Right of Judge as State Official,” said Hatta Ali explaining that he directly got the information from Silalahi.
The Draft mentioned judges are entitled to a basic salary, functionary allowance, house facility, means of transportation, health and security benefits, travel expenses, protocol status, retirement fee, and some other rights.

The amount of salaries and allowances, as mentioned in the draft, are tailored to level of career, years of service, work area, as well as court class.
The Chief Justice told that the Supreme Court is eager the President as soon as possible to sign the draft to be a special gift in this National Annual Meeting. Unfortunately, some problems remain.
On the other hand, Hatta reminded the judges to always be alert and cautious. He warned every single court personnel not to make such an action that could cause the overhaul of our salary.
Hatta emphasized that judge must tightly hold professionalism and integrity. “Professionalism without integrity is like the blind, integrity without professionalism is like the lame,” he added.
