Effort to Increase Number of Courts Providing Legal Aid Post

Purwosusilo hopes that the number of Religious Courts providing facility of legal aid post will increase for this year. In 2011 there were 46 Religious Courts with this facility and in 2012 the number increased to 69 Religious Courts.

He also said that the existence of legal aid post complies with article 57 of Law No.48 of 2009 and article 60 of Law No. 50 of 2009.

“We are aware that the state can not provide budget for all 359 Religious Courts. Therefore, we plan to increase the number gradually,” he said in a workshop held by Change for Justice, USAID in Aryaduta Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday (6/3/2013).

Some leadership of the Supreme Court including Deputy Chief Justice of Civil Case, Chief Justice for Criminal Case, officials of echelon I and II, chiefs of appeal court and judges attended this workshop.

 

. According to article 57 of Law No. 48 of 2009 and article 60 of Law of 2009, legal aid post must be established in every court. This service is a facility to help poor people in accessing justice.

 

Purwosusilo said that performance of legal aid post in 2011 and 2012 was satisfying. In 2011, religious courts had succeeded in providing 35,009 services. It exceeds from the target of 11.553. Meanwhile, religious courts had provided 55,860 services during 2012.

“It is more than 303 percent from the target in 2011 and 385 percents in 2012,” Purwosusilo said.

In fact, there is a crucial problem relating to the effort to increase the number of courts providing legal aid post. The budget for 2013 has not been allocated yet by the state.
