President Hoge Raad of the Netherlands: "We Are Brothers"

The Supreme Court of Indonesia and the Hoge Raad of the Netherlands signed a MoU on Judicial Cooperation this morning, Monday, 18 March 2013. This MoU signing is a manifestation of the already long-established mutual cooperation between the two institutions.

The cooperation will focus mainly on sustainable dialogue on issues around civil, criminal and taxation laws. Strengthening the chamber system is also another focus that will be addressed.

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Hon. Hatta Ali, highly appreciated the MoU saying that the cooperation between the two judicial institutions would make the existing cooperation more structured and more sustainable which would lead to optimum results as expected.

Meanwhile, President of Hoge Raad, the Hon. G.J.M. Corstens, stated that the MoU signing was a good start. “This signing (seems to) reaffirm that Indonesia’s Supreme Court and the Netherlands’ Hoge Raad are truly brothers,” he said as quoted by www.mahkamahagung.go.id.

The MoU signing which took place in the Supreme Court’s kusumaatmadja room was also attended by the Hon. J.A.C.A Overgaauw (Vice President Hoge Raad), Justice M.A. Loth (Hoge Raad), Mr. J. Storm (Registrar Hoge Raad), A.R. Rotscheid, Dr. Sebastiaan Pompe and a number of the Indonesia’s Supreme Court’s high officials.

The Hoge Raad delegates are also scheduled to visit Badilag office at Jl. Ahmad Yani. The Religious Courts’ Gallery, SIADPA Laboratory and SIMPEG Laboratory are among the targets of their visit while in Badilag. (ch)
