Jakarta | badilag.net (13/7)

To give the public a broad access to the religious judicature information, Directorate General of Religious Judicature Body (Ditgen Badilag) builds a website in English version. The soft launching was carried out by The Director General, Wahyu Widiana in Badilag Auditorium, Jakarta, today (13/7).

“The relationship between Badilag and international communities significantly increases in a variety of aspects , such as the relationship related to the publication of PTA’s judgments in AsianLII, the partnership between Badilag with Family Court of Australia, Legal Development Foundation (LDF), AusAID, MCC-ICCP, USAID, Asia Foundation, some international universities, International Association for Court Administrators (IACA), and so on. To support these partnerships, we need to provide a website in English version,” asserted Wahyu Widiana in his welcome speech on the launch. Attended by structural officials and staff of Ditgen Badilag, the soft launching was symbolized through “first click” on www.badilag.net/english/.

According to the Director General, Ditgen Badilag is not the first one to launch English version website within Religious Judicature. At least, there are two PAs having launched English version websites: Cilacap (www.pa-cilacap.net) and Wonosari (www.pa-wonosari.net/english/). “I greatly appreciate their creativities. Their efforts inspired the presence of Badilag English version website,” he added.

The Director General expected this website can enhance public access toward religious judicature information, because information about religious judicature in Indonesia has attracted international academic attention. Besides, it is expected that the image of Indonesian religious judicature on the international communities continually increases. The website also aims to stimulate religious court apparatus enhancing their skill on international languages.

Empowering Human Resources

“To realize the website, Badilag proudly utilizes internal human resources, consisting of Badilag website team and language editors recruited from religious courts staff based on the Letter of Dirgen Badilag No. 3436/DjA.2/OT.OO/VII/2009,” said Asep Nursobah, Head Sub Division of Documentation and Information.

The team of English version website comprise website design team: Asep Nursobah, Hirpan Hilmi, Helmi Indra Mahyudin, Endah Purnamasari, and language editors: Achmad Cholil (PA Maninjau), Andi M. Yusuf Bakri (PA Limboto), Shofa’u Qalbi (PA East Jakarta), M. Nur (PA Central Jakarta), Ahsan Dawi (PA Wonosari), and Herman Hermanto (Badilag staff). The team worked 4 days, 9 – 12 of July, supervised by the Director General himself along with Head of Sub Directorate of the Fostering Religious Court  Judicial Staff, Sunarto.

Achmad Cholil, one of language editing team, felt so proud to be involved within the team to create Badilag English version website. “We are so excited because we can share various information to the world about religious court in Indonesia,” stated Cholil.

However, he acknowledged presenting website content in English is not an easy task since there are a number of technical problems related to the use of legal and technical terms. Examining some of legal and technical terms to those applied in other English countries is one of the ways to resolve the problem. “English law dictionaries and some search engines seem to be a big help to this team.” He said.

Different Content

The Dirgen explained that the content of Badilag English version website is not the same as that of Indonesian version. The English version publishes “only” general information about religious court such as the profile, organizational structure, judgments, as well as the activities related to justice, transparency, and other international issues.

Regarding the presence of the website, Wahyu Widiana admitted that this website still contains shortcomings in several menus, “We need suggestions and feedbacks for a better improvement,” concluded the Director General.(written by badilag team).
