At the end of his terms as the supreme court justice, the former chairman of religious court chamber, the Hon. DR. H. Andi Syamsu Alam, SH., MH is obsessed to make religious courts as world class courts.

“We hope we can be in the top ranks of world class courts. Family court in Australia, religious courts in Indonesia and the courts in Middle East.” Andi Syamsu Alam stated in a coordination meeting with chiefs of Religious High Court and Mahkamah Syariah held by Badilag two weeks ago.

. According to the Hon. Andi Syamsu Alam, to achieve the qualification of world class courts, the judges should create modern and equitable verdicts. Modern verdicts contain of breakthroughs and equitable ones contain not only of legal certainty, but satisfy the justice as well.

To create such kinds of verdicts, the judges should enhance their competencies. Of them is by continuing their education to the higher level. “This is one of the reason why we always encourage the judges to continue their studies until doctoral level.” He explained further.

Beside capacity enhancement, the Hon. Andi Syamsu Alam reminded judges to pay a serious attention to the productivity in creating the verdicts. The Supreme court is trying hard to reduce the backlogs to the minimum level. And the lower courts are expected to do the same program.
