Badilag and Egyptian Ambassador to Make Cooperation

Egyptian Embassy agreed to make a cooperation with the Directorate General of the Religious Courts relating to program for human resource improvement.

The cooperation will also involve scholarship for post graduate and doctoral program and short course. Both parties were committed to realize the cooperation as soon as possible.

Purwosusilo, the Director General of the Religious Courts (Badilag) and Farid Ismail, the Secretary of Badilag met Baha Dessouk, the Egyptian Ambassador, on Friday (08/03/2013). Syekh Sami al-Jamal, a professor from Al-Azhar University also attended the meeting.

Purwosusilo explained that there are approximately 3,500 judges in 359 religious courts across Indonesia.

To enhance and improve capacity of judges, Badilag had made some cooperation with some institutions. According to Purwosusilo, Egypt is the center of civilization in Islam and therefore such cooperation is needed.

Effort to Increase Number of Courts Providing Legal Aid Post

Purwosusilo hopes that the number of Religious Courts providing facility of legal aid post will increase for this year. In 2011 there were 46 Religious Courts with this facility and in 2012 the number increased to 69 Religious Courts.

He also said that the existence of legal aid post complies with article 57 of Law No.48 of 2009 and article 60 of Law No. 50 of 2009.

“We are aware that the state can not provide budget for all 359 Religious Courts. Therefore, we plan to increase the number gradually,” he said in a workshop held by Change for Justice, USAID in Aryaduta Hotel, Jakarta, Wednesday (6/3/2013).

Some leadership of the Supreme Court including Deputy Chief Justice of Civil Case, Chief Justice for Criminal Case, officials of echelon I and II, chiefs of appeal court and judges attended this workshop.

Badilag Has New Director

Nurhadi, the Secretary of the Supreme Court installs Tukiran as the new director of directorate of the development of religious court administration in Badilag, Wednesday (27/02/2013). This position is one of echelons II in the Directorate General of the Religious Courts (known as Badilag).

Badilag is one of working unit of echelon I under the Supreme Court. It has three directorates including a). directorate of the development of religious court judicial staff, b). directorate of the development of religious court administration and c). directorate of the religious civil case management and regulation.

In his new position, Tukiran replaces the deceased Sayed Usman who passed away in January 14, 2013.

Nurhadi also installs other three officials of echelon II and eleven officials of echelon III. Two of them are from Badilag, namely Timur Abimanyu, S.H., M.H and Drs. Muhidin.

Tukiran was born in Langkat, North Sumatera in March 20, 1958. He started his career as a public servant in March 1, 1983.

During his careers, he has a lot of experiences in some positions including as head division of general affairs, as head division of personnel, vice registrar, substitute registrar, and registrar.

Demand for Birth Certificate Increases

Case of “itsbat nikah” (legalization of marriage) in the Religious Court of Girimenang increases compared to two years ago. It reaches 400 percents. Until February 2013, there have been 1,850 cases for birth certificate. Unfortunately, the state allocates the budget only for 700 cases.

This important fact has been exposed when Wahyu Widiana, the former director of the Directorate General of the Religious Courts and Cate Sumner, consultant of Australia Indonesia Partnership for Justisce (AIPJ) visited this court, Monday (18/02/2013).

They found that many people in Mataram do not have marriage certificate because their marriage was not officially recorded at Religious Affairs Office. In the past, people still assume that they do not need certificate of marriage since the marriage has been known by people.

People found difficulty on how to obtain certificate of marriage and birth certificate. They had to go some different institution in fulfilling requirements.
