The Application of SIADPA Continues to be Evaluated and Developed

In recent years, Directorate General of Badilag continues conducting a series of evaluation and development of SIADPA (Case Management System of Religious Court) application. The seriousness of Badilag is shown by the formation of SIADPA national team in early 2011 and also followed up with several meetings to complete it.

The nine-day meeting was one of them. Located at Topaz Hotel, Bandung, the evaluation and the development of SIADPA application has been being conducted.

The Director of Administration Development of Religious Courts, Drs. H. Sayed Usman, SH. in his speech in the opening ceremony on Thursday (12/1), suggested that although SIADPA with the new version, SIADPA Plus has been used since long time and has proven its superiority, but in line with the changing times, the current application still requires improvement and development.

"... As champions within the judicial system of social justice and access to justice reform, Indonesia's Religious Courts now stand as models for judicial reform in Indonesia ...". (P xx).

"From this perspective, the Religious Court can be seen as one of the most Successful of Indonesia's judicial institutions. This is in some senses, ironic, as these courts have also historically been neglected by the state ... "(p.14).

The Director General of the Religious Courts (DG of Badilag), Wahyu Widiana quoted some important sentences from a book written by Cate Sumner and Tim Lindsey while he presented his paper on the Religious Court Reform in Indonesia, Sydney, Monday (28/11/2011). Wahyu Widiana who is accompanied by Dr.Hasbi Hasan from the Indonesian Supreme Court, is invited by the Lowy to deliver a keynote address on the recent progress on the Religious Courts in Australia-Pakistan Dialogue on Access to Justice.

DG Promotes Religious Courts in Australia

The success achieved by Religious Courts seems to attract a serious attention of the international community. This was proved by the invitation received by the Director General Wahyu Widiana asking him to present such speech at several important places in Australia.

During the week, from November 26th to December 3rd, the Director General will have been in Australia, accompanied by Secretary of the Supreme Court leader, Dr. Hasbi Hasan.

"The invitation is for Religious Courts. I only represent our comrades from Religious Courts, "said DG a few days ago, before departing the country.

During his visit in Australia, DG absolutely has a fairly solid schedule. At first, on Sunday afternoon, he attended the invitation of the Lowy Institute in Sydney. He was asked to deliver Key Note Address in the dialogue between Australia and Pakistan Thinkers on access to justice.

During the meeting Director General met with a number of important people from the Lowy Institute, such as Michael Wesley (Executive Director) and Anthony Bubalo (Program Director), and Rod Brazier (Ausaid).

DG of Badilag dismissed Negative Stigma Against Religious Court

The inauguration and the swearing-in of the chief of Banjar City Religious Court as well as the inauguration on the operation of Banjar City Religious Court was held on Monday (11/21/2011) at the city hall of Banjar municipal goverment. The ceremony was attended by some leaders of executive, legislative, and judicative office, the religious leaders and the community leaders as well.

The Director General of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana, use the chance to dismiss the misunderstanding against religious court.

“There is a joke, that religious court is only a place to divorce. Some others say, when there is a religious court, then the divorce rate in the area will increase. In fact, some others also say, the religious court judges will be given incentives if they decide more cases of divorce. That is not true.” He said.

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Sudan HE. Galaed Dien Mohammed Othman visited the Religious Court of South Jakarta, which is one of the best courts in Indonesia, Friday (18/11/2011). He could not hide his feeling from being impressed by the Religious Court of Indonesia because he never found this kind of modern court in Arabian countries and that’s why on that point he said “this is incredible”.

Mr. Galaed Dien Mohammed Othman was accompanied by his Deputy, HE. Abdurrahman Asy-Syarfi and the Ambassador of Sudan for Indonesia, HE. Ibrahim Boushra Mohammed. These special guests were received and welcomed by the Chief of the Religious Court of South Jakarta, Mr. Ahsin Abdul Hamid, and the DG of Religious Courts, Mr. Wahyu Widiana as wel as the Chief of Jakarta High Religious Court, Mr. Khalilurrahman.
