Director General of Badilag Visits Museum of Rumah Keadilan

Director General of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana, visited Binjai Religious Court on Wednesday, September, 5, 2012. The Director welcomed by the Deputy Chief, Rusyidi An, judges, registrar, officials, and Binjai Religious Court’s staffs. After having an informal meeting with judges and staffs, the Director looked around rooms at the building of Binjai Religious Court.

The interesting thing at Binjai Religious Court is there is a special room for museum. The museum named Museum of Rumah Keadilan (House of Justice). It filled by historical photos and historical objects on the development of Religious Court in North Sumatra. The nuance is simple but full of meaning. It was inaugurated by chief district of Binjai, M. Idaham, on September, 14, 2011. Its size is 4,5 metre x 4,5 metre. “The valuable thing of this museum is idea,” he said, when he looked around it.

The Director was impressed by Museum of Rumah Keadilan.

Six Facts about Religious Court

Prior to 130 years old, religious court has recorded a series of history. In the long span of time, there were many things about the religious court in the past that is rarely known. Among these are six important facts below:

Honorary Judges

In 1982, religious courts consisted of 258 first instance courts and 10 appeal courts with 1733 voluntarily judges and 581 permanent judges. Most of the honorary judges were comprised of priest obtaining the IDR. 1.000 every month in addition to the IDR. 250 for each case he or she handled. The number of cases handled by religious courts at that time no less than 260,000.

Female Judges

The appointment of women as judges of the Religious started in 1956 when K.H. Moehammad Djoenaidi served as Head of the Religious Court Bureau. The amount of women serving as judge was about 20. Most of them were former participants of the marriage counseling course conducted by Indonesian Women Congress (Kowani) under the Religious Affair Bureau.

The Former Officials Gladly Welcome the Commemoration

On Sunday evening (8/26/2012), there was a meeting between the former and the current officials of Badilag in Ciawi, Bogor. The meeting, which took place in the Islamic Development Foundation, was part of leaders’ gathering aimed to obtain sort of ideas in conjunction with the commemoration of 130 years of Religious Courts establishment.

Among the attendances was Mr. Marzuki (75 years old), the former Head of Domestic Affairs within the Directorate of Religious Court. He is about 30 years of retirement. Mr. Sukin (74 years old), the former Head of Administration, Head of Sub Directorate of Personnel and Facilities, and then Head of Equipment Bureau in the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and now is the lecture in the State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta, also participated in the meeting.

Deputy Chief Justice of Religious Court Affairs: Religious Courts’ Staffs Not To Be Ahistoric

The Deputy Chief Justice of Religious Court Affairs, Andi Syamsu Alam, supported the making of Religious Court gallery. He suggested the collection of historical objects related to Religious Courts started from now.

“This gallery will be very meaningful for everyone, not only to Religious Courts’ Staffs,” he explained. “This gallery, he continued, becomes as a media that connects previous generation to the next generation.

He hoped religious courts’ staffs not to be ahistoric or blind of their institution history. By this gallery, the next generation will get big support and motivation to continue the existing progress,” he said. The Chief Justice signed the inscription of 130 th Anniversary of Religious Courts on Wednesday (1/8). The day was 130 years of Religious Courts acknowledged by the Dutch Colonial, since August, 1, 1882.

On the day, Director General of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana, accompanied by the writer book team and the committee of 130 th Anniversary of Religious Courts, held a hearing with Andi Syamsu Alam to report the ongoing preparation.

Prof. Kusano: Mediation is well implemented at this Religious Court

South Jakarta Religious Court had honorary visit from Japan delegation on Monday, August, 6, 2012. The delegation consisted of Prof. Yoshiro Kusano (Gakushuin University), Prof. Kazuo Inaba (Chukyo University), Prof. Taksuki Inada (Gakushuin University), Prof. Takashi Oshima (lawyer), Yasuko Miura (lawyer), and Tomomi Hori (International Corporation Training).

The delegation welcomed by Andi Syamsu Alam (Deputy Chief Justice of Religious Court Affairs), Kholilurrahman (Chief of Religious High Court, Jakarta), Yasardin (Chief of Religious Court, South Jakarta), Tatayuga (Chief of Religious Court, Central Jakarta), Zulkifli Yus (Chief of Religious Court, North Jakarta), Zulkarnain (Chief of Religious Court, East Jakarta), Yusuf Buchori (Chief of Religious Court, West Jakarta), and judges of South Jakarta Religious Court. .
