“The Religious Courts of Indonesia are very unique. I could not find courts like these in my country”, Markus B. Zimmer said when he conveys his main purpose to visit Badilag, Thursday (24/3/2011). Markus aims to know the case management applied in the religious courts.

Markus B. Zimmer, as an Advisory Council Chair of IACA (International Association for Court Administration), is welcome by Wahyu Widiana (the Director General of Badilag), Farid Ismail (the Secretary of Badilag), Purwosusilo (the Director of the Development of Religious Court Judicial Staff) and officials. .

 

Students of Chicago conduct a research on the Religious Courts

About eight students from Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago, visit the Supreme Court for a research on Wednesday. (23/3/2011). They are interested to understand the judicial system in Indonesia, especially the Religious Court’s jurisdiction.

Samuel Tenebaum, as professor of Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago leads his students to collect some important data for the sake of their research.

The students are welcome by by Altidjo Alkotsar (Deputy Chief Justice), Andi Syamsu Alam (Deputy Chief Justice of Religious Court Affairs), Prof. Abdul Ghani Abdullah (judge at the Supreme Court), Wahyu Widiana (Director General of Religious Court), and other officials. .

DG of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana, uses a different and distinct way in presenting his paper in IACA Conference. Moderated by Mas Ahmad Santosa, he plays a video to illustrate his paper titled “Justice for the Poor: The Badilag Experice”, Tuesday (15/3/2011).  He attracts a great attention of all participants.

All participants are very curious when they watch the video made by the Supreme Court in corporation with AUSAID and PEKKA (Female Heads of Household) in the Religious Court of Cianjur. This video is on circuit courts conducted in the Religious Court of Cianjur.

DG of Badilag explains on Justice for the Poor to Journalists.

A press conference is held at Salak Room in Novotel Hotel, Bogor. The Chief Justice explains about the 2011 IACA Conference to journalists. A journalist asks a question on legal aid provided by the Supreme Courts. The Chief Justice, Harifin A. Tumpa, suddenly asks DG of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana to answer the question. “Badilag (Directorate of Religious Court) knows the real conditions”, the Chief Justice said.

The President of Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, pays a serious attention to access to justice program. When he officially opens the 2011 IACA (International Association for Court Administration) Conference in Bogor Palace, Monday (14/3/2011), he states that the prodeo (waiving court fees) facility, circuit court and legal aid post will be improved and enhanced.

“We are helping the poor, children and women through prodeo, circuit court and legal aid post”, the President said in the opening ceremony.

“This conference is aimed to share some information and experiences. The condition from each country will differ but the commitment to provide access to justice to people is the same”, President said, when he delivers his opening words.
