‘Justice for All’ More Than Just Fee Waiver, Circuit Court and Legal Aid Post

Director General of Religious Courts Body, Wahyu Widiana, said ‘Justice for All’ programs in religious courts are not only concerned with fee waiver/prodeo cases, circuit court and legal aid post at court.

“More than that, ‘Justice for All’ relates to all aspects of services,” Wahyu said on Thursday (21/8/2010) in Bandung, West Java when attending the inauguration of 6 high judges and 12 chief judges of religious courts across West Java.

He stated justice is still unreachable by everyone. “Court can’t still be accessed by the poor, people with disability, and the marginalized people,” Wahyu added.

Training for Judge Candidates Reevaluated

National Legal Reform Program (NLRP), a program funded by Dutch government, disclosed the final report of its observation on Indonesian judge candidate training, which is regularly carried out by the Supreme Court’s training center.

On its executive summary of the report, Charlotte Keijer and Henriette Schatz from NLRP stated that the formulation of judge candidate training program should be based on the understanding that theoretical and practical education must be conducted in an integrated manner.

The contents of the program must also be aimed at preparing judge candidates to meet their prime tasks of a specific profession i.e. judge.

DG of Badilag Inaugurates 19 Officials

19 officials of echelon IV in the Director General of Religious Courts Body in the Supreme Court were inaugurated by the Director General, Wahyu Widiana, on Tuesday, 10 August 2010.

Wahyu hoped that these new officials could go hand in hand to implement the vision and mission of Badilag, to realize great Indonesia’s Religious Court. “We have a big-scale program of Justice for All. Let us be well prepared for the success of this program,” Director General said.

New Registrar of the Supreme Court Inaugurated

Chief Justice of the Indonesia’s Supreme Court, the Honorable Dr. H. Harifin A. Tumpa, SH, MH inaugurated H. Suhadi, SH, MH as the new Registrar of the Court on Tuesday, 08 August 2010. Suhadi replaces Sarehwiyono, who is now Chief Judge of Semarang High Court.

On his speech after inauguration, Chief Justice stated the Supreme Court had succeeded to  reduce the number of backlog cases, thanks to the Supreme Court Decision Letter on the time limit of case settlement in the Supreme Court.

Supreme Court Training Center Gets Accreditation

The Indonesia’s Supreme Court Training Center has been accredited by the National Institute of Administration (LAN/Lembaga Administrasi Negara). LAN on 3 August 2010 decided that the Court’s Training Center has fulfilled and met the national standards for training and education. The Certificate of Accreditation was handed over to the Chief Justice, Harifin A. Tumpa, on Monday 9 August 2010.

Chief Justice, Harifin A. Tumpa admitted he was proud of the accreditation. “This Certificate of Accreditation can be made as a trigger for the Supreme Court to provide better and more progressive officers in the near future. We need professional and competent human resources to implement a great judiciary,” Chief Justice said, hoping the training center could obtain International accreditation.
