A visit from The Asia Foundation

Directorate General of Religious Courts in the Supreme Court received a visit from a representative of The Asia Foundation (TAF), Rosita Mac Donald, on Thursday (11/3). Rosita, the Program Officer for Governance, Law and Civil Society of TAF, came to Badilag accompanied by Lies Marcoes Natsir, representative of TAF Indonesia.

Rosita is arranging a booklet of success story on Badilag’s successful roles in empowering Religious Courts’ judges on gender sensitivity which has been implemented by Sharia Provincial Court of Aceh.

Vice Chief Justice for Non Judicial Affairs earns his doctorate satisfactorily

Vice Chief Justice for Non-judicial Affairs Hon. Ahmad Kamil has successfully earned a Doctorate from postgraduate program of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Jogjakarta. He was even granted a graduate with satisfactory level by his dissertation examiners in the open promotion of doctoral examination of postgraduate program on Friday (5/3/10).

Ahmad Kamil successfully retained his dissertation entitled “Kebebasan Hakim Dalam Persfektif Filsafat Kebebasan Franz Magnis Suseno; Relevansinya Bagi Pembinaan Hakim Indonesia” focusing on philosophy and law.

The examiners team consisted of Prof. Dr. R. Soejadi, SH (Promotor), Prof. Dr. Lasiyo, MA, MM (Co-Promotor), Prof. Dr. Edhi Martono, MSc (Chairman) with members of examiners: Prof. Dr. Kaelan, Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghofur Anshori, SH, Prof. Dr. Djoko Soerjo, MA, Prof. Dr. Syamsulhadi, MA, Dr. Mohammad Hatta, SH, MH, and Dr. Joko Siswanto.

Director General of Religious Courts Body in the Supreme Court Wahyu Widiana for the umpteenth time emphasizes the importance of IT use to help realize transparency in the Indonesian judiciary.

“We no longer put Information Technology as our main program but its use and existence in every Religious Court has become a must. IT is a vital means to judicial transparency,” he said as quoted by pta-banjarmasin.go.id (5/4) when giving directions to participants at Regional Working Meeting of PTA (High Religious Court) Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.

Supreme Court’s Annual Report

3.4 million cases resolved, 30 judges heavily sanctioned, 760 billion state-loss returned

Annual report of the Supreme Court delivered by Chief Justice Hon. Harifin A. Tumpa on Thursday (25/2) reveals that in 2009 Indonesian first instance courts received a total of 3.546.854 cases, out of which 3.462.158 cases have been decided. The total decided cases were examined by four jurisdictions within the Court i.e. General, Religious, Administrative and Military Courts.

Quick and light criminal cases and traffic cases ranked the top position with the total 3.015.511 cases. Religious Courts cases came at the second with 274.545 cases followed by other civil and criminal cases in General Courts numbering 163.541 cases. Meanwhile, Administrative Court resolved 5.861 cases and Military Court decided 2.700 cases.
