Chief Justice Awards Some Justices

Chief Justice, Hatta Ali awarded three justices and substitute registrars with good working performance, Monday (08/07/2013). The main purpose of the awarding was to enhance the quality of case settlement in the Supreme Court.

Justices who were awarded were Dr. H. Abdul Manan, SH, S.Ip, M.Hum (from religious chamber), Dr. Artidjo Alkotsar, SH, LLM (from criminal chamber), and Dr. H. Imam Soebechi, SH, MH (from administrative chamber).

Abdul Manan successfully won the awarding with 901 cases settled in the first semester. Artidjo Alkostar stood at the second rank with 830 cases settled. And Imam Soebechi was at the third rank with 748 cases settled.

Supreme Court of Sudan is Independent in Budgeting

Chief Justice Hatta Ali said that there are three fascinating things about Sudan particularly on judiciary matters.

First, practice of Sharia economy has rapidly developed. This country became one of pioneers in implementing Sharia economy.

“I heard that this implementation of Sharia economy has been advanced so that we have to learn from this country,” Hatta Ali said to delegate of Sudan’s Supreme Court, Monday (24/06/2013).

Judges Rewarded for Successful Mediation

The Director General of the Religious Courts, Purwosusilo said that judges would be rewarded for successful mediation. It does not mean that judges failing to mediate parties would be punished. Judges will be promoted or transferred to certain courts.

Purwosusilo realized that hitherto there is no accurate data on mediation. Therefore, the Directorate General of the Religious Courts needs an accurate data on successful mediation. The data will be collected from all working units.

The data will be analyzed and used to take a certain important policy.

During 2012, it was reported that only 61,000 cases mediated. Of this number, there were only 3,000 cases which were successfully mediated. Meanwhile, all Religious Courts received more than 476,000 cases during that year.

The data above causes doubt whether it is accurate or not. Question may arises is why there was only 61,000 cases which were mediated? Meanwhile, the number cases received were 476,000 cases.

MoU for One Roof Hearing Signed

The Directorate General of the Religious Courts and the Directorate General of Islamic Community Guidance the Ministry of Religious Affairs agreed to conduct collaboration. Both director generals of these institutions, Purwosusilo and Abdul Djamil signed a MoU, Sunday night (9/6/2013).

The MoU was signed during a coordination meeting at Mercure Hotel, Ancol. It was attended by around 160 participants from regional office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs throughout Indonesia.

The MoU regulates on administration and marriage quality improvement. Marriage guidance needs to be strengthened in order to enhance quality of marriage. Both institutions will play an important role to embody such purpose.

There are five areas of MoU, namely standard policy and service procedure for marriage, divorce, and reconciliation; one stop service for legalization of marriage which is conducted both in the country and overseas, divorce mediation; validation of marriage data, divorce, and reconciliation and human resource development.

It will be responsibility of both institutions to socialize the MoU to all working units across the country. They will also make planning, implementing and evaluating of the program.

The Director General of the Religious Courts, Purwosusilo said that this MoU is very important. The involvement of both institutions is needed to make the program successful.

After Religious Courts finished a hearing of marriage legalization, a marriage will be recorded by the Religious Affairs Office.

In fact, Population and Civil Registration Agency is needed to take a role in implementing this program. Many children have no certificate of birth. After marriage of their parent is legalized, Population and Civil Registration Agency will be able to issue a birth certificate.

“People will obtain three legal important documents after a marriage is legalized,” Purwosusilo said.

Wahyu Widiana, consultant of AIPJ who is the former director general of the Religious Courts said that some steps must be taken in implementing the MoU. Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) must be immediately made.
