Deputy Chief Justice for the Development, Widayatno Sastro Hardjono, officially opened Working Meeting of the Directorate General of Badilag (Religious Courts Body) on Monday (8/2) in Bandung, West Java. The meeting planned to take place until next Thursday (11/2) is attended by officials from all ranges within the Directorate.

The Deputy Chief Justice stressed the importance of achieving the new vision of the Supreme Court to realize great Indonesian judiciary.

“If we all possess high intention, willingness, capability and sincerity, then we can possibly achieve the Supreme Court’s great vision even before 2025,” Widayatno said.

Nenad Bago, Senior Adviser of AIPJT, said on Tuesday (2/2) that judgments of Religious Courts published on www.asianlii.org have met the International standards of Human Rights. Speaking before around 30 participants of English discussion at Badilag office, Nenad Bago presented his paper on Access to Justice.

“Indonesia has also achieved a great progress in reforming its judicial system by giving the access to justice for the poor in comparison with other developing countries in the world,” he added.

The training on Syari’ah Economy for the Religious Court judges held in the University of Ibnu Saud, Riyadh, appears to be extended. The first training which was held from December 17, 2008 until January 17, 2009 involving 36 judges from religious courts had gained many advantages.

This was the conclusion of an informal meeting between the Dean of Ma’had Qadla from the University of Ibnu Saud and Deputy Chief Justice for Religious Courts. The meeting was held on Friday (29/1) in Le Meridien Hotel, Jakarta. The Dean was accompanied by the Dean Assistant, while Deputy Chief Justice came with the Secretary of the Supreme Court and DG of Badilag.

On every occasion, Director General of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana, always emphasizes the importance of leadership role in accomplishing vision and mission of Indonesian supreme judiciary. This is also what he said before the participants of Regional Working Meeting (Rakerda) of PTA (High Religious court) Medan, North Sumatra on Wednesday (27/1).

According to the DG, Leaders play a very important role in realizing the Indonesian supreme judiciary. Excellent facilities and high budget are not the guarantee. It is the leaders’ high attention and exemplary attitude that determine the implementation of supreme, respected, independent and modern judiciary.

Publish the verdicts or you’ll face charges, says Director General

Director General of Religious Courts Body in the Supreme Court (Badilag), Wahyu Widiana, said court officers who were responsible for providing information but did not comply with the stipulations of Law No.14/2008 on the openness of public information could face charges of a minimum one year in prison.

Wahyu made those statements when giving directions to seven Chief Judges of Religious Courts in Madiun, West Java (25/1). The seven Chief Judges are from PA (Religious Court) Madiun Regency, PA Madiun City, PA Ponorogo, PA Magetan, PA Ngawi and PA Nganjuk. They attended the ceremony on the Development of Information Openness System.
