Former Chief Constitutional Court Praises Religious Courts

Former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Prof. Jimly Asshiddiqie gave high appreciation to the religious courts when speaking at a seminar themed "Management of Judges as State Officials" at the Judicial Commission (KY) office on Tuesday (09/09/2014).

"I see that the religious courts have been developed. The use of IT by the courts is already advanced. That could be made an example," he said before Vice Chief Justice for Non-Judicial Affairs, justices, commissioners of KY, DG Badilum, DG Badimiltun, Chairman of the Supreme Court’s Training Center, and a number of other attendants.

Badilag Held Technical Training on Court Administration

In the first quarter of 2014, Badilag held technical training on court administration in Bogor, facilitated by Directory of Court Administration Development. The training was arranged to run 10-14 of March.

The Director of Court Administration Development, Dr. Hasbi Hasan, SH., MH., stated that the participants of the training had been tightly selected through several criteria. The most decisive information regarding the recruitment criteria was adopted from Case Information Portal http://infoperkara.badilag.net .

“Through the portal, we better understand which courts that have implemented Court Administration System (SIADPA) in a good, middle or low category,” said Hasbi Hasan.

The Experiences of Religious Courts in Providing Legal Aid was Presented in Iran

Indonesian Religious Courts got an appreciation from the international circles due to their experiences in providing legal aid for the poor. In a workshop held by the United Nations Offices on Drug and Crime (UNODC) in cooperation with the Iranian judiciary in Teheran (March 3rd, 2014), the former Director General of Badilag who currently serves as the Senior Adviser of AIPJ (Indonesia Australia Partnership for Justice), Wahyu Widiana was invited to be the speaker and talked about the experiences of Badilag in providing legal aid for the poor.

Wahyu Widiana was one of three speakers from outside of Iran who were invited. Others were Valerie Lebaux, chief of justice section from the head office of UNODC of Vienna, Austria and Justice Duncan Mlambo, Chief of Legal Aid South Africa.

According to Sefat Shemarani, the sub-national program coordinator of UNODC, there are two main goals of the one day workshop, namely to inform the participants on recent development of the providing of legal services in international level and to provide input for the legal enforcement authorities on the best practices in legal aid services in several countries, especially on how it operates.

Badilag Prepares Technical Instruction for SC Regulation 1/2014

Badilag is preparing the technical instruction for Supreme Court Regulation Num. 1 of 2014 on guidelines for the provision of legal services for the poor in the courts. Since it has been enacted on January 9th, 2014, the regulation is not equipped by the technical instruction, whereas the fiscal year of 2014 has come to the third month.

“The technical instruction is really urgent, because the religious court apparatus need the detail instruction related to the disbursement and implementation of the program,” Director General of Badilag, Dr. H. Purwosusilo, SH., MH stated when opening the program of socialization of Supreme Court Regulation num. 1 of 2014 in Depok, on Monday (March 3rd, 2014).

The Supreme Court Regulation Num. 1 of 2014 is the substitute of the former Supreme Court Regulation Num. 10 of 2010 on the guidelines for provision of legal aid. In the recent regulation, procedure and mechanism for the provision of legal aid is made easier. The discharge of fee is not determined through the hearing anymore, but determined by the chief of religious courts.

DG of Badilag Obtains Doctorate in Law

Director General (DG) of the Indonesia’s Religious Courts, Purwosusilo, now holds a doctorate in law after successfully defending his dissertation at Bandung Islamic University (Unisba) on Monday (4/2/2014). The DG’s full name is now Dr. H. Purwosusilo, S.H., M.H.

His dissertation is entitled “The Proportionality Principle in the Contract for Procurement of Goods/Services According to Presidential Decree No. 54/2010 to Achieve Good Governance”.

“Considering his subjects scores, dissertation grade, and the score of this doctoral exam, the university declares that Mister Purwosusilo passed with very satisfactory,” said the chairman of the open session, Dr. H. Mercy Ceha, who was accompanied by a number of professors.
