Never Give Up Developing IT

Although facing some serious obstacles such as far distance, internet traffic jam, and slow internet connection, the religious courts in Papua never give up developing Information Technology. Therefore, the Director General of the Religious Courts, Wahyu Widiana appreciated the High Religious Courts and all Religious Courts in Papua for their spirit to develop IT.

“I am very happy and I do appreciate all efforts of our colleagues here”, Wahyu Widiana said when he opened a training on the Code of Conduct for Judges in Jayapura, Tuesday (19/4/2011).

The training was attended by the young judges from all Religious Courts in Papua. There were three keynote speakers in this training; they were Hasan Bisri (Vice Chief of the High Religious Court of Bandung), Bahrussam Yunus (Vice Chief of the High Religious Court of Makassar), and Tata Taofiqurrohman (Chief of the Religious Court of Sentani).

Badilag Prepares the Procedural Law for Shari’a Economy

After Directorate General of the Religious Courts (Badilag) succeeded to accomplish the compilation of Shari’a Economic Law, it holds a program on the Draft of Shari’a Economic Procedural Law, in Bogor from 13-14 of April this year. This program is attended by Prof.Dr.H. Abdul Manan, Sip, M.Hum, as an informant. This draft will be completely accomplished before 2011 will end.

“The presence the procedural law of Shari’a economic is urgently needed”, Drs. H. Farid Ismail, secretary of Directorate General of the Religious Courts said. “There are big needs to it. It is aimed to help all judges to settle the Shari’a economic cases”, he said in opening ceremony.

Deputy Chief Justice for the Religious Courts, the Hon. Andi Syamsu Alam, said that all elements from the judiciary and local government should support the implementation of legal aid post at the religious courts.

“Legal Aid Post is established to assist poor people to have wider access to justice,” Andi Syamsu Alam said when officially launching the legal aid post at Manado Religious Court (13/4/11). .

North Jakarta Religious Court, an Impressive Court

After sharing his experiences at the Badilag’s English Meeting Club, Markus Zimmer visited North Jakarta Religious Court. This Advisory Council Chair of IACA wanted to directly see how a religious court handles cases and provides public services.

Accompanied by Achmad Cholil, a religious court judge, Zimmer was welcomed by Chief Judge of North Jakarta Religious Court, H. Busra, along with his staff.

Zimmer was very enthusiastic listening to the presentation on circuit court given by the Chief Judge. Zimmer was curious of the mobilization of the circuit court, the locations, the time, the judges that handle, the cost needed, and so on. .

“Acces to justice is still a serious problem through out the world. Among the problems of access to justice are violence against children, women as well as exploitation toward themselves without legal aid. There are many historical documents showing mass violence”, Markus B Zimmer said in English Meeting Club (EMC) held by Directorate General of the Religious Court (Badilag) on Thursday, at the Badilag’s meeting room, 6th floor. (14/4/2011).

English Meeting Club (EMC) is a routine program held by Badilag and it is is attended by about 40 participants from judges, officials and staff of some the Religious Court in South Sumatera, Lampung, Banten, West Java and Jakarta. It is opened by Wahyu Widiana, the Director General of Badilag, who is also a participant in this meeting.
