“Technology For Justice”: is a Must

DG of Badilag conveys his opening word

The usage of technolgy for justice is a must. It will enable judicial process become quick, cheap and tansparent. It finally also provides some important benefits for the justice seekers. DG of Badilag explaines the importance of technolgy for justice in opening the IT Development Training in Badung, Wednesday (March 3, 2011).

The training held in ITB’s campus, was a collaborative work between PTA Bandung and Information Source Unit of ITB. There were 65 participants from PTA Bandung and some religious courts in West Java.

The 2011 IACA Conference:

A Great Honor for the Religious Courts


In cooperation with Association for Court Administration (IACA), the Supreme Court will be the host for IACA conference. The conference promoting the theme “Access to Justice” will be held in March 13 to 16, 2011 in Bogor. About 18 countries will participate at the conference.

“In this conference, Badilag get a big honor to present the real experiences based on an accurate data about access to justice provided in the religious courts” Dirjen said.

Director General of Badilag will be scheduled to present his paper at the third day of the conference. The title of his paper is “Justice for the Poor: The Badilag Experience”. He will discuss on prodeo (waiving fees), circuit court and legal aid post provided in the religious courts.

Badilag’s 2011 Working Meeting

Badilag held working meeting in Bandung, West Java for thee days from 2 – 4 March 2011. Led by Director General Wahyu Widiana, the meeting was attended by all officials of echelon II, III and IV of the Secretariat and the three Directorates at Badilag.

"Through this meeting we (will) discuss our performance indicators during 2011," said Director General when opening the event on Wednesday night (2/3).

Director General warned that the performance indicators organized by Badilag should be adjusted with basic tasks of the Directorate General i.e. managing and developing religious courts both at the first instance and appellate courts. .

Chamber System and Case Disposal Productivity

Chief Justice, Harifin A. Tumpa, voiced the importance of instituting a chamber system and limiting cassation cases, when he delivered his speech on the Supreme Court Annual Report 2010 at the Court building in Jakarta, Thursday (24/2).

“Instituting a chamber system is our priority for the next five years. Chamber system is important for (1) handling cases in accordance with justices’ competence, (2) Reducing decisions disparity, and (3) improving the quality of Supreme Court’s decisions,” Chief Justice said.

Religious Courts and One Stop Service System

DG Badilag Wahyu Widiana said that religious courts have been developing a ‘one stop service system’ to avoid illegal meetings between court officials/officers with litigants. The system needs to be effectively employed since the illegal meetings between court officials with litigants outside the court sessions lead to unfair presumption from other parties.

Wahyu Widiana delivered those statements on Tuesday evening (23/2) in front of approximately 300 civil servant candidates who are following pre-office training at the Supreme Court Training Center in Bogor, West Java. Under a paper titled ‘A Brief of DG Badilag and the Religious Courts’, Wahyu explained a number of Badilag’s programs and policies.
