Sudan Chief Justice Delivered Public Lectures and Gave Scholarship Opportunities

In their visit to Indonesia, the Chief Justice of Sudan, the Honorable Galal Ed Deen Mohammed Othman, and Vice Chief Justice, the Honorable Abdurrahman Mohammed Abdurrahman Syarfi delivered public lectures at the Auditorium of Board of Research and Development, Education and Training of Law and Judicature of the Supreme Court at Mega Mendung, Bogor on Wednesday (11/16/2011).

The Chief Justice and Vice Chief Justice of Sudan came to Bogor accompanied by the Coordinator of the Supreme Court Reform Team, the Honorable Prof. Paul Effendi Lotulung and the Honorable Justice Prof. Abdul Ghani Abdullah.

The lecture itself was attended by more than 200 judge candidates who were following Judge Candidate Training Force VI derived from three judicatures, namely general, religious, and state administration judicature.

Indonesia – Sudan Sign an important MoU

The Hon. Dr. Harifin A. Tumpa, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia and HE. Galal ed Dien Mohammed Othman, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Sudan sign an important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in Jakarta, at Kusuma Admaja Room, Thursday (17/11/2011).

Some chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia, justices, officials of echelon I, Vice Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Sudan, HE. Abdurrahman Asy-Syarfi, the Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan, HE. Dr. Mohammed Ali Abdulah, and Secretary General of Judge Affairs, HE. Dr. Ali Abdullah, also attend the ceremony of signing.

The main purpose of this MoU is to establish a framework to enhance effective cooperation between the parties through exchange of information and capacity building programs.

 

The Directorate General of the Religious Courts (well-known as Badilag) which is led by Wahyu Widiana, will play an important role in implementing the MoU. It serves as the coordinator for the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia. It has an urgent responsibility to open a channel of communication for other coordinator to ensure accurate flow of information regarding the cooperation. Besides, it also holds annual consultation to assess and to review the implementation of the MoU.

The Delegate of the Supreme Court of Sudan arrived in Indonesia

After taking 12 hours of trip, the Chief Justice of Sudan, Galaleddien Mohammed Othman with his colleagues arrive in Soekarno-Hatta airport, Tangerang, Monday 914/11/2011).

“Welcome to Indonesia,” justice Prof Abdul Gani Abdullah said.

Wahyu Widiana (the Director General of the Religious Courts), Hasbi Hasan (Head Division of Leadership Secretary in the Supreme Court), Nasich Salam (Special Staff of the Director General of Badilag), Chief of the General Court and the Religious Court of Tangerang as well as Sudan Embassador welcomed the delegates.

Galaleddien Mohammed Othman said that he was very happy to visit Indonesia. This is the first time.

“We have a special relationship with Indonesia. Asia-Africa conference has a historical value for the independence of our country,” he said.

UN Organization Interested in Performing Cooperation with Badilag

An organization under the United Nations engaged in the world population, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), expressed its interest in cooperation with Religious Court Body (Badilag).

Two representatives of UNFPA, Martha Santoso Ismail and Ramot Nurlela Arita, met with the Director General of Badilag Wahyu Widiana in his office on Friday (11/11/2011). Both were accompanied by Husein Muhammad and Marzuki Wahid from Rahima Institute.

"We want to conduct cooperation in terms of strengthening women's rights in religious courts," said Martha.

He reveals UNFPA is an organization that has been in Indonesia since 1972. Initially, UNFPA focused on family planning or what so called Keluarga Berencana. Recently, this organization emphasizes on reproduction health issues.

Badilag Successfully Held Fit and Proper Test

Vice-Chief Justice for Non-Judicial Affairs and Deputy Chief Justice for Development Affairs are examining the participants of fit and proper test

Fit and proper test to determine the Chief Justice of the Class I Religious Court at certain cities was successfully held by Badilag on Wednesday (11/09/2011). There were 31 participants tested for chief justices  in 13 Religious Courts.

"This is the first fit and proper test we hold. Alhamdulillah, it can run smoothly," Director General of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana said.

Fit and proper test that was held in Alila Hotel, Jakarta, was originally planned to be followed by 33 participants, but two of the them were absent because they conducted pilgrimage to Mecca.

The 31 participants consisted of 12 deputy chief justice of class IA RC, 13 Chief Justices of class IB RC and 6 deputy Chief Justice of Class IB RC. They aged under 52 years old.
