Supreme Court Signs MoU Annex with Federal and Family Court of Australia

Chief Justice Harifin A. Tumpa of the Supreme Court of Indonesia signed an MoU with Chief Justice Michael Black of the Federal Court of Australia (FCA) and with Chief Justice Diana Bryant of the Family Court of Australia (FCoA) Thursday (30/7) at Kusumahatmaja Room, Supreme Court’s office, Jakarta. The MoU is an annex to the previous MoU signed on July 21 2008.

In his address, Chief Justice Harifin A. Tumpa said the Supreme Court of Indonesia had made much progress on ensuring access to justice such as in areas of judicial transparency, case management, information technology development, judgment publication, and supporting poor people to access to justice.

“Those achievements are the result of the strong bond between the Supreme Court and the Federal and Family Court of Australia,” CJ Harifin Tumpa said.

Chief Justice of the Indonesian Supreme Court, Dr. Harifin A. Tumpa, SH, MH received an invitation to participate in and give a presentation on the 4th conference of the International Association for Court Administration (IACA) that will be held next November in Istanbul, Turkey.

It was Richard Foster, IACA Vice President for Southern Asia and Australia, who directly conveyed the invitation to the Chief Justice at his working room this morning.

Richard, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Family Court of Australia (FCoA), said the Chief Justice was invited to the conference since the Indonesian Supreme Court had made much progress particularly on transparency and judicial reform.

“That’s why we request the chief Justice to give a presentation on transparency and Indonesian Judicial System,” Richard Said.

Vice Chief Justice for Judicial Affairs and Chief Justice of FCoA, Diana Bryant, Open Management Training for Female Heads of Courts

Vice Chief Justice for Judicial Affairs, Abdul Kadir Mappong, opened court management training and education for Female Heads of Courts Wednesday (29/7) held at main auditorium of Training and Education Center of  Supreme Court in Megamendung, Bogor. Chief Justice of Family Court of Australia (FCoA), Diana Bryant, also attended this training.

Diana Bryant gave a speech on her experience in dealing with change management within the Family Court of Australia.

Some high-rank officials in the Supreme Court were seen attending the opening ceremony; Deputy Chief Justice for Development, Widayatno Satro Hardjono, Deputy Chief Justice for State Administrative Affairs/Judicial Reform Team Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Paulus E. Lotulung, SH, Director General of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana and Head of  Education and Training for Law and Judiciary, Anwar Usman. Also attending the meeting were Prof. Tim Lindsey (LDF Adviser), Cate Sumner (LDF), Victoria (AusAid Official), Leisha Lister (FCoA), and other officials.

Joint Forum of Badilag, Badilum, LDF and Judicial Reform Team Discuss Survey Results

After successfully conducting research on Religious Court Access and Equity in 2007, LDF (Legal Development Facility) has now conducted a follow-up research. A similar survey has also been undertaken within General Courts. The research on Family Law Access and Equity involved a number of Religious Courts with huge, medium and small workload as the respondents. Joint Forum of Badilag (Religious Courts Body), Badilum (General Court Body), LDF and Judicial Reform Team are now discussing the research findings at Badilag’s office Tuesday (28/7).

The forum, considered as a preceding visit agenda of Chief Justice of Family Court of Australia (FCoA), is led by the Director General of Badilag, Wahyu Widiana. The meeting was also attended by Cate Sumner (Lead Advisor LDF), Leisha Lister (FCoA), Director General of Badilum, PTA Jakarta Chief, PTA Bandung Chief, PTA Banten Chief and Chairpersons of Religious Courts throughout Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Depok and Bekasi as well as officials from Board of Research, Development, Education and Training of Law and Judiciary.
